Album Description Los Angeles Wunderkind FLYING LOTUS makes his Warp debut with a distinctively off-kilter fusion of dark electronic soul, rough psych rock, far-flung dancefloor jams & plenty bass. Much has been made of his COLTRANE and DILLA Connections, but 'Reset' serves as both a proper introduction & a tantalizing peek of what to expect from his upcoming Warp full-length next year. Lotus is an achingly natural, imaginative and prolific musician, traits somewhat unsurprising when you consider his LA upbringing as part of the Coltrane family (Alice was his aunt). With a style of production and songwriting which oozes freshness these 6 tracks have been causing a flurry of excitement ever since they touched down within the confines of the Inertia office. Wait til you hear them thunder, wobble and squelch on a big soundsystem.

Good heady Hip-Hop. July 1, 2008 This EP is better than Lotus's two LP's,(1983 and Los Angeles) both are solid records thou. You get the most bang for your buck here. Not a bad song in the bunch. (Tea leaf dancers)is by far his best song to date. You can't stop your head from bop'n on that one. He has a heavy sound to his Hip-Hop, some times to heavy for me. If you like Madlib you will prob'ly like fling lotus.
Headphone Commute Review March 4, 2008 Steven Ellison lands a Reset EP, on Warp Records. His previous full length release, titled 1983, was released by Warp's US West Coast outlet, Plug Research. The LA producer grained recognition, and graduated with flying lotus [er... I mean "flying colors"]. Reset opens up with a track featuring heavily gated, soul vocals by Andreya Triana (think Jazz Sensation's Just Like That). From then we wobble through super groovy, left-field, instrumental hip hop, to the likes of Daedelus, Prefuse 73, DJ Shadow and Malcom Kipe. Overall the sound is spacey, loungey, sexy, if you will. The EP is rather short, and before you know it, the six tracks of eighteen minutes are over, and you press play again. And if it sounds like you have heard some of these head-nodding beats before, well... you have: think all the text-based short Adult Swim interludes with laid back and dope rhythms. It's nice to see Warp Records back in the groove (not that I dislike Grizzly Bear, but... you know what I mean). Check out his web site for a quick game of Attack! Then hit Reset. Favorite tracks: Tea Leaf Dancers and Massage Situation.
