3 out of 5 stars A product of the times....   December 27, 2007

When this first came out in the early 90's, I was not impressed. Coming from a background where I listened to people like Rakim, KRS-One and Chuck D, this was not up my alley. However, in retrospect, this is a well put together album. Sample heavy of course, using all of the sample cliches from this time period, it is "made for the stations". Truly a well put together album, although the lyrics are not that great. But in terms of being a Club MTV style dance record, it defintely hit its mark. I truly beleive that Mark loved real hip hop, but having Donny as a producer influenced the dance style of the record. Overall, a really high quality effort and Mark, don't be ashamed of your past... we call that a sellout.

3 out of 5 stars Not the most stunning artistic achievement, but still makes Vanilla Ice look like cold fish   September 2, 2007

A lot of people couldn't stand him rapping, and I won't say that he's the best rapper ever, but Mark Wahlberg did have a couple of pumping good jams here. His energy and charisma is at it's best on the smash hit party anthem "Good Vibrations" (which I heard on the speaker system at Morey's Piers in Wildwood, New Jersey just yesterday), and he really shows off his "don't mess with me" side on "Peace" which is definitely NOT a peace anthem, but the rap solos by the other members of The Funky Bunch make it a lot of fun, as do the funky horns (which, as I can best ascertain, were composed and arranged by Marky Mark's own backing crew, and are not built from samples).

5 out of 5 stars Old but Good   July 1, 2007
I was very surprised to see how much I'd really like this cd. I listen to it daily and it gets you so pumped for workouts!! You can't honestly hate Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. He's more of a happy rapper and makes you feel good unlike most rappers.
