Editorial Reviews:

Description
Thirty-five years since they last performed there as an opening act, Daryl Hall and John Oates returned to the Troubadour in May of 2008 to find the legendary Los Angeles club nearly unchanged. The same can't be said for the fourth-biggest act of the '80s (after Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince), and the best-selling duo ever. For two nights, they delighted fans with a nonstop barrage of unforgettable hits, all of which are included on this sensational two-hour concert. Now you can experience this sold-out, $200-ticket show in your own living room. Two-hour concert taped in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience, and featuring 19 songs, including all of their biggest hits. Features a fan-pleasing mix of classics such as "Private Eyes," "Maneater," "Kiss On My List," "Sara Smile," "She's Gone," "Rich Girl," "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)," "Family Man," and "You Make My Dreams," along with deep cuts and fan favorites. Six songs never before available on a live release, including "Everything Your Heart Desires" and "When The Morning Comes."

3 out of 5 stars So So performance that could've been done better   December 31, 2008
Hall and Oates Live In Concert was a much better concert than this one. Yes, it is stripped down. But that does not make it sound uplugged so much as it does weak. Sounds too much like background elevator music and not enough like a concert. If it had been does more Bluesy I could've lived with it, but as is, it's not up to snuff.
Mr. Hall has lost the majority of his range and it shows on almost every song. Too bad.... I had expected a lot more than this after the other reviews on this site. The camera is constantly shifting. The stage is too small and seems to cramp all the band members and with the fans only a few feet from the band, the whole setup seems cheesy. Not happy with this disc.

5 out of 5 stars Very Highly Recommended.   December 27, 2008
I suppose the greatest compliment one could spare about Daryl Hall and John Oates is that their music is still exciting. The roster of songs they have gathered for this show is as cutting-edge and diverse I hoped it would be (how ironic is that, more than 30-years later their songs sound just as well as they did in the mid 70s). In fact, I was listening very closely to hear how the sax would blend with the guitars and, suffice to say, there are plenty of downtempo and fusion artists out there that could learn a thing or two from the duo.

First of all, the quality of sound is terrific. The audio producers must have run a number of tests prior to recording the show as balance is top-notch. I could easily hear all of the instruments blended together and each time there was a solo (sax, guitar, etc) I did not hear sudden bursts of sound (as I've heard on quite a few recordings) disrupting the balance I mentioned above. On the contrary, what I heard coming from my speakers was a well rounded sound with a very studio-like qualities. The guitars in particular blend very well with the singing, and I definitely did not feel like missing portions of the performances due to improper mixing.

First of all, the contrast is simply superb. One could easily tell that this is a freshly-recorded show as the strategically positioned cameras have captured practically everything you would want to see in a live show at home. Terrific angles, very strong close-ups, and an even more impressive balance is what we have here. Indeed, you won't be able to tell at all that different cameras were used to record the show - the transitions are that smooth.Terrifically captured on Blu-ray Live at the Troubadour is a must-have for those who have a special place in their hearts for the duo's sensual music.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome   December 22, 2008
Awesome blu-ray.Great picture and audio quality. H&0 are the best. Great songs with great lyric and an excellent band to go with it. A must buy if you like H&O'S.

5 out of 5 stars They are truly Great!   December 20, 2008
This Concert is awesome. Everytime Hall & Oates perform live they seem to have a bag of tricks up their sleeves. Performing songs from Greatest Hits to the new ones they manage to update the arrangements that are pleasing to the ear & that feel fresh. Also having the audience participate & sing along like it was a cool party. I highly recommend this DVD. Of course I bought the Blu-Ray. Great job Guys.

5 out of 5 stars I wish I had been there.   December 16, 2008
It's so real and lively, an excellent performance with open mike comments to their audience. Very good video production!
