Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk
Don't call Santi White an R&B artist: on her debut album Santogold, this former music biz A&R and pop songwriter for hire is challenging race stereotypes and playing fast and loose with genre, mashing up dub, punk, and electronics to make an energetic, anger-fuelled music that blurs the lines between the dancefloor and the moshpit. Comparisons to MIA hold some water, especially on the bullish "Creator" (it's worth noting that Santogold features production turns from sometime MIA collaborators Diplo and Switch). For the most part, though, Santogold's debut follows a quite different path. "L.E.S Artists" is stirring new-wave pop that builds to grand, tearful choruses reminiscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, while "You'll Find a Way" and "Say Aha" are propulsive ska-pop numbers that hark back to its creator's previous band, Bad Brains-influenced punks Stiffed. But it's not just skilful genre-skipping to recommend this record, though: White is the rare vocalist that can sound empowered and vulnerable within the space of the same song, and it's her force of character that places Santogold ahead of the pack. --Louis Pattison

5 out of 5 stars A gem in a sea of unremarkable music   January 4, 2009

I am a resolute non-review writer but I am as close to in love with this album as one can be. It's been a long time since I've heard a new artist with as unique a sound as Santogold and I am really enjoying it.

More please!

5 out of 5 stars Unique Sound!   January 1, 2009

I was really excited about getting this CD because I really loved the song "L.E.S. Artistes". I literally could not stop listening to this CD once I got it because the sound is so amazing and the lyrics are so unique! I abosulutely cannot get enough of this CD and its totally worth every cent. ALL songs on the CD are good and fast. This is an energetic CD. Great for the gym or just being creative.

5 out of 5 stars "We think you're a joke, shove your hope where it don't shine..."   December 21, 2008
Santogold is an unique artist to say the least and with her self-titled debut album, she hits all the right beats from beginning to end. Santogold's real name is Santi White, her sound is heavy in dance and experimental pop. Santogold uses so many styles and it's hard to catergorize her but what I do know is I enjoyed this infectious album. Her voice sounds like Nelly Furtado, Shirley Manson, and Gwen Stefani, she blends all different textures and makes it work. I'm A Lady is the strongest track, Shove It has an incredible hook, and L.E.S. Artistes is pure ear candy. Lights Out and Anne are beautiful, strange ballads. I highly recommend this groundbreaking album enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars A Bit Like the Music You Hear in Abercrombie-type Stores   December 8, 2008

I always tend to take a walk through stores like Abercrombie, Hollister, and others known for playing loud music just to hear the songs I've never heard before. Santogold sounds very much like the music you'd here in one of these places, in my opinion.

I bought the MP3 CD for $5 from Amazon.com figuring, "What's five bucks?". Wow was I impressed (I think it's worth more!).

The music is very... I don't know: fun!

Amazon referred me to Santogold based on my music purchases and I'm so glad they did. The music and lyrics are just what I was looking for...you'll be singing along to all the tracks in no time. I'm definitely a fan.
