If the Game's G Unit-fueled debut--the most anticipated CD of early 2005--is supposed to be the Answer like Iverson, then what was the question? Well, when an emcee gets to rifle through 50 Cent's Rolodex to hand-pick top flight producers (Timbaland, Just Blaze, Kanye West) it's a can't miss scheme, right? In this case, uh-huh. "Westside Story" is Game's opportunity to remind crunk-come-lately's that his region is still rap relevant. On the Dr. Dre-produced "Higher" he snorts: "I got 'em (Impala's) in every color, yeah I'm a known stunna." Yep, he's rich now too, and drives whips that cost more than most make in a year. It doesn't even matter much that he's a B minus rhyme spitter, or that he spends way too much studio time name dropping. His real life 50 Cent-esque narratives (been shot, involvement in "subterranean" activities) makes cuts like the introspective, Havoc-hemmed "Don't Need Your Love" with Faith Evans that much more compelling. Boasting a half-dozen plus other sure-fire hit singles including the Kanye burner "Dreams," few albums can match up to The Documentary--the only Game in town. --Dalton Higgins

5 out of 5 stars The Game's Documentary   September 18, 2008
This is the first Game CD. This CD is the best CD The Game made. It has a lot of 50 cent on it. This CD also has a DVD with it. The DVD has The Game in Compton talking about his hood.

2 out of 5 stars The Crockumentary (2 and 1/2 stars)   February 20, 2008

If there is one thing you can say about hype is that it's powerful if you fall for it. Here's a guy who got crushed by Yukmouth, Joe Budden, Ras Kass and Bang Em & Domination and the hype machine is making him seem like a juggernaut on the mic. You will come to one realization when you here this album: Game is a painfully average MC with a painfully average album. The production for the most part is tight. It's Game that falters most of the time. How We Do was a good choice for the lead single. Hate It Or Love It and Dreams were also great choices for singles. Runnin feat Tony Playdoh and Westside Story are okay but that is where it stops. Higher and Start From Scratch have dope beats to them but Game wasted them big time. Start From Scratch which features Marsha from Floetry is pretty much Game whining through a whole song drunk. More pain and suffering would surface on tracks like Church For Thugs, No More Fun And Games, Special feat Nate Dogg(the worst track for the ladies you'll ever be unfortunate enough to hear), Dont Need Your Love and Dont Worry feat Mary J Blige. On We Aint feat Eminem, Game proclaims that Eminem murdered him on his own track. Correction: 50 murdered you How We Do, Eminem ate you alive on We Aint but that tracks sucks donkey balls anyway. "The Documentary" has more namedropping then 50 Cent's "Ghetto Quran". Speaking of that, the namedropping he does ALL OVER THIS ALBUM is the most annoying gimmick ever point blank period! Put You On The Game and Where Im From are also filler too. The last track Like Father, Like Son feat Busta Rhymes would have been an honorable mention but the sleepy rhymes as well as the sleepy production provided by Buckwild hurt more than help. Bottom Line: The Documentary is the most overrated album of 2005. When the hype dies down what are you left with? An average rapper who namedrops throughout the whole album as well as some mediocre beats(with a few exceptions) and Lukewarm guest spots(with a few exceptions also). Standouts: WESTSIDE STORY, DREAMS, HOW WE DO, HATE IT OR LOVE IT and RUNNNIN.

5 out of 5 stars Great Album From The Game   March 27, 2006
This CD is absolutely amazing. The best CD G-Unit ever put out.

Track Rating:
1. Intro - 5/5
2. Westside Story - 4.5/5 - Great flow, great lyrics. The only little problem is 50 doing the hook. They should have had Snoop or someone from the westside do the hook.
3. Dreams - 5/5 - Love this track. Great beat and The Game spits some amazing lyrics.
4. Hate It Or Love It - 5/5 - 50 Cent and The Game both do some very good verses. 50 Cent and The Game are at their best.
5. Higher - 5/5 - Love the beat and the chorus. Great song to blast in your car.
6. How We Do - 4.5/5 - Another amazing beat. I think 50 steals the show from The Game. The Game's verse is kinda annoying but still good. Another song to blast in your car.
7. Don't Need Your Love - 5/5 - The Game spits some mad verses about his history. Great song. Faith Evans spits an amazing hook as well.
8. Church For Thugs - 5/5 - Great flow. One of my favourite tracks.
9. Put You On The Game - 5/5 - Love this song. The beat is sweet. Probably my favourite song on this CD. Another good song to blast in your car.
10. Start From Scratch - 5/5 - Love The Game's voice in this song. Another good song about the past. Marsha has a good voice and does a great hook as well.
11. The Documentary - 5/5 - The intro to this song is quite good. Sets the tone very well. The Game disses a lot of people in this song. The Game pulls it off though with a great hook and and some good verses.
12. Runnin' - 5/5 - Another great song and beat. Tony Yayo does an amazing verse as well.
13. No More Fun And Games - 4/5 - I like The Game on this song, but the chorus annoys me. The ending annoys me as well.
14. We Ain't - 5/5 - Probably my second favourite song on this CD. Everything is perfect: the beat, the lyrics, The Game spits some good lyrics, and Eminem spits an amazing verse.
15. Where I'm From - 5/5 - Another great song. Nate Dogg fits the song perfectly as well. Kinda disappointed Dr. Dre isn't on this song like the mixtape.
16. Special - 3.5/5 - Very poppish song. Nate Dogg is great on this song but The Game doesn't fit the song very well.
17. Don't Worry - 3/5 - This song bores me at the beginning. Its hard to listen all the way through. The Game actually has some good verses if you get that far. Mary just bores me.
18. Like Father, Like Son - 4.5/5 - Great song about The Game's son being born. Busta Rhymes does the hook. The only drawback for me is the beat. I don't really like the beat.

Overall - 4.7/5

As a side note, the DVD is okay, but not good enough just to buy the Collector's Edition. It is easily skippable.

5 out of 5 stars The Butterfly Man   November 26, 2005
This album is hot. Every track is a banger. Nothing can take away that the fact is that this album is awesome. The only thing that I can take away is the that this man is not a gangsta. How can a gangsta get a butterfly tattoo on his face and claim to be a Blood?????? You know his homies are embarressed by this. Haa haa.
