4 out of 5 stars A Step-Up From 'Chase the Cat', a Step-Down from Classic Short Dog   June 2, 2007
'Married to the Game' is a pretty good album from Too $hort, but once again it's not another classic like many of his older albums were. Despite this, this is a good new-school, post-retirement Too $hort outing. It's definitely better than 'Chase the Cat', which was a very un-even album.

'Married to the Game' starts off with an awful opening, 'Choosin'. In fact I though this album was going to be complete rubbish because of that. However, it gets off to a decent start with 'What She Gonna Do?', which is very modern and pretty good sounding. 'That's How It Goes Down' is embarrasingly bad and is a candidate for the worst song Too $hort has ever done. The next few tracks are fantastic, and N.O.R.E. adds to 'You Can't $&#@ With Us', which makes it a great song. 'Shake That Monkey' could've been a huge single, and 'Burn Rubber' shows that producer Lil Jon has more talent than most will give him credit for. 'Hey Let's Go' features E-40 and he adds some goodness to the track. The rest of the album is pretty good, but none of the last few tracks approach classic status.

Overall, 'Married to the Game' was as good as post-retirement Too $hort was going to get. It's not the classic his early albums were, but it's not the disaster his new s**t is either. It's one of his more memorable albums in the past few years.

4 out of 5 stars Album "#15" is another alright one - 3.5 stars   November 11, 2005

Just a year since his last album, $hort Dog is back with album 15. Of the 10 I have of his albums, this falls in the bottom third . Typical Too $hort that we all love, but without the tight beats and 6+ minute songs. A good amount of dirty songs, but once again as with most of his albums after his '96 "retirement" the production is lacking. Of the 15 songs, 9 are good (no classics and only about 2 are real good), 5 are ok and 1 I skip. Guests rap on 2 songs and do hooks on about 9. Production is as I said, ok but no that old school classic $hort funk that everyone loves. Dez does 8 songs, Lil Jon does 5 songs and Jazze Pha and the great Ant Banks each do 1 song. A good album for his fans to have but not his best.

#1 - 8 (f/ Jagged Edge & Jazze Pha)
#2 - 9 (f/ Dionne Denham -- great beat from Big Bad A$$ Banks)
#3 - 7.5 (f/ Oobie)
#4 - 9 (f/ Petey Pablo & Noreaga -- tight song but $hort is out of place on here -- good beat)
#5 - 7 (f/ Lil Jon)
#6 - 8
#7 - 8 (f/ Devin the Dude & Cutty Cartel)
#8 - 8.5 (nice beat)
#9 - 7 (f/ Dez who drops an annoying hook)
#10 - 5
#11 - 8 (good beat)
#12 - 7.5 (f/ Dez -- he gives props to Cali Girls -- not $hort-like)
#13 - 6.5 (f/ Val Young)
#14 - 8.5 (f/ Val Young -- nice beat)
#15 - 8 (f/ Dez)

5 out of 5 stars Good Album But The Older Albums Are Better.   October 14, 2005

It's a good CD, But I think that his older LPs are better (late 80's and early to middle 90's speaking). Because back then he
and Ant Banks were making beats that was full of funk and bass
now he is working with people like Lil' Jon on which I think
isn't right for him. And another thing, after 25 years he is out
of know where showing golddiggers, hoes, & groupies respect!.
What happened to songs like "Ain't Nothing But A Word" &
"All My B****** Are Gone" instead of songs like
"California Girls" & "Female Players"? I hope you are not getting soft on me, $hort. I think the only way to attract your old fans again and to sell like you use to, is to go your old style. FAST!!!!!!!!!!
