Great British Pop March 12, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a compilation in the manner of the American 'Now' series, but the British one is much longer and contains the full songs. As with all compilations there are always songs that you do like and songs that you don't. It's a good representation of British music in general, with some great British pop especially. People from the USA are likely to know of Britney Spear's 'Oops!...I Did It Again', Shania Twain's 'Don't Be Stupid' (although this is a dance remix), Aaliyah's 'Try Again', *NSync's 'Bye Bye Bye' and Backstreet Boy's 'The One'.However, there's plenty of music in that kind of vein that is just as good but are unheard of outside of Britain. For cheesy pop you can't go far wrong with the bouncy 'Reach' by S Club 7 or Louise's '2 Faced'. There's a slightly distinguishable R&B element to some tracks such as the chart-topping 'Day And Night' by teenage pop sensation Billie and British boy group Damage's 'Ghetto Romance'. There's a nice selection of up-and-coming artists here too, which is always nice to see. Of particularly note are the sombre band Coldplay, R&B star Jamelia and Irish singer Samantha Mumba's debut single 'Gotta Tell You'. Unfortunately the second disc is mostly full of manufactured dance, although Spiller's 'Groovejet' is admitedly wonderful. There's even a few older stars here such as a new Tom Jones track and a cover of a Barrie White classic. However, it is the pop that really stands out on this album.
Now 46 Review Of The Year! August 2, 2000 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I think this CD is really good if you're in to pop and dance music. It's also got a little bit of R 'n' B but it's mostly a compilation of poppy songs hitting the British charts at the moment. It features bands like S Club 7, N' Sync, Brittney Spears, BSB, Mary Mary and their amazing new song, Gabrielle, Kylie, Bloodhound Gang, Samantha Mumba the new Irish pop/R n B girl, Billie Piper and HEAPS more. I love this CD, just like I love every other Now compilation. This is one of the best yet, because it's more of a mixture of different types of songs, so I reckon you should buy it. Even if you're buying it on import I think you should. Also, if you like some of the music on this check out the other Now albums and some of the Big Hits compilations too.
Here's the tracklisting, with some notes July 29, 2000 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
If you've found this album on Amazon, by now you probably realize that the UK NOW series, like the US is a compilation of recent hits. Unlike the US series, the hits are much fresher, and there are 2 CDs in the case. All tracks are the unedited, full length single versions by the original artists. Most familiar to US customers: Britney's "Oops!", NSync's "Bye Bye Bye", BSB's "The One", Sonique's "It Feels So Good", Aaliyah's "Try Again" and Bloodhound Gang's "Bad Touch". Here's the full track listing: 1. Oops! I Did It Again - Britney Spears 2. Reach - S Club 7 (this should be their American breakout track, theme from the 2nd season of their Fox Family show) 3. Feels So Good - Sonique 4. Shackles (Praise You) - Mary Mary 5. Gotta Tell You - Samantha Mumba 6. When A Woman - Gabrielle 7. Spinning Around - Kylie Minogue (co-written by Paula Abdul) 8. Sex Bomb - Tom Jones & Mousse T 9. The Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang 10. Don't Be Stupid - Shania Twain 11. Day & Night - Billie Piper 12. 2 Faced - Louise 13. Try Again - Aaliyah 14. Bye Bye Bye - N Sync 15. Ghetto Romance - Damage 16. When I Said Goodbye - Steps 17. The One - Backstreet Boys 18. Porcelain - Moby 19. Yellow - Coldplay 20. Song For The Lovers - Richard Ashcroft (ex of The Verve) CD2: 1. You See The Trouble With Me - Black Legend (dance remake of a Barry White song) 2. Groove Jet (If This Ain't Love) - Spiller 3. Sandstorm - Darude 4. OTB (On The Beach) - York 5. I Need Your Lovin' (Like The Sunshine) - Marc Et Claude (remake of Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime by the Corgis) 6. The Power Of Love (Rob Searle Club Mix) - Frankie Goes To Hollywood 7. When The World Is Running Down (You Can't Go Wrong) - Different Gear Vs The Police (yup, the Police) 8. Luvstruck - Southside Spinners 9. Will I Ever - Alice DeeJay 10. It's My Turn - Angelic 11. Airwave - Rank 1 12. Girls Like Us - The B15 Project Featuring Crissy D & Lady G 13. Summer Of Love - Lonyo aka Comme Ci Comme Ca 14. Crazy Love - MJ Cole 15. Masterblaster 2000 - DJ Luck & MC Neat Featuring JJ (the old Stevie Wonder track in a reggae style) 16. Freak Like Me - True Faith & Dub Conspiracy 17. Call Me - Jamelia 18. Uncle John From Jamaica - Vengaboys 19. Flee Fly Flo - Fe-Mail 20. For Sure - Scooch 21. I Want Your Love - Atomic Kitten 22. Deeper Shade Of Blue - Steps The 2nd CD is heavy with dance remakes and remixes, and it's rather light on real rock, but an accurate reflection of what British pop radio sounds like. The fun is in guessing what tracks will make it over here.
The grooviest cd this year! July 28, 2000 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This CD features artists like: SClub7, Sonique, Stephen Gately, Steps and lots, lots more. This double CD has all the songs that are in the UK charts at the moment and will no doubt go down a storm. I recommend this to anyone and even if you have to get it export so it is more exspensive it's worth it. Everyone buy this CD!
