Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Of all the genres within electronic music, trance probably gets the worst rap. The music is guilty by association with the hippies that worship it with a religious-like fervor. And if executed poorly, its dramatic crescendos sound like pretentious, pompous pap. But a good trance DJ can save a string of the genre's records from falling down the drain of all-too-common gargantuan breakdowns and endless wind-ups. Paul Oakenfold might be the DJ to rescue trance from itself; Tranceport features a veritable who's who of trance records and producers--Sasha's remix of Gus Gus's "Purple," a few tracks from seminal trance producer Paul van Dyk, and the driving, impenetrable "Enervate" by Transa. Oakenfold's mixing is impeccably suited to trance: long, drawn-out bleeds of sound seep from one transcendent track to the next. --Tricia Romano

4 out of 5 stars Not Quite Up To Par   December 27, 2008
I lked this album mixed by Paul Oakenfold. However, it's NOT what I would expect from Mr. Oakenfold. Some of the tracks seem to fall short of the the usual great beats and sounds you hear from him today. Perhaps an earlier album of his? At any rate, I still enjoyed this import from England..

5 out of 5 stars Oakenfold's best   December 27, 2008
Even the name and cover art of this album rock! A seminal work in the history of trance music, and a collection that I still regularly que-up frequently a decade after it's release, TRANCEPORT is one of the best trance collections ever produced. With instant classics like "Gamemaster," and "Rendezvous," Oakenfold has never produced another album of this quality. This is a complete, sickly awesome mix that moves effortlessly from track to track. Listening to this album is an experience. It should be listened to from beginning-to-end the first time through, and is best enjoyed in that format.

Oakenfold may have lost his way in recent times (although Bunkka is also a great album) but back in 1998 when this was released, there was nothing else out there are good, and there still isn't. On my top five trance albums ever produced, TRANCEPORT should be part of any trance fan's collection. Hopefully Oakenfold will someday return to this level of greatness, and give us at least one more 5 star album before he fades from the scene. Until that happens, keep this one close.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant   July 7, 2008
If you were to only have a handfull of CD's to give to someone who didn't know anything about EDM (Electronic Dance Music) and wanted to know, this would be one. This album is a MUST HAVE for anyone who truly loves EDM. I have read other reivews about it and I must say I cannot say anymore. It has already been said. Stop reading reviews...look at all the 5 Stars and click purchase..you won't regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Classic "Trance"...   July 5, 2008
It's all been said here with the hundreds of reviews since 1998, 10 years later it still "feels good". I dare say, Oakenfold emerged as THE top global DJ during these years and America (I am American) came to discover "trance" music years later around 1996-97 after the movement started as early as 1992-93 in Berlin and London (Sven Vath - My Name is Barbarella 1992). Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar track is also circa 1993 and was the first "trance" video I ever saw on MTV2. If you'd like to back up and add a classic to your your collection, the "Tranceport" series helped start it all here in the USA.

5 out of 5 stars 10 STARS!!!!!!   January 16, 2008
This is the best compilation of trance tracks ever. If anyone is interested in what trance or electronic music is all about this is the perfect starter.
